The Alabaster Jar Foundation was established in 2009 with programs to impact the lives of singles by leveraging the platform of CBA's Singles Initiative Project.
The foundation started housing its first teenage mother in 2014 with the view of helping her get her life back together again. Four months pregnant, she came in at age 17. The foundation registered her at a health center and paid all her ante-natal and medical bills including her caesarean birth expenses.
She had dropped out from her second year in senior secondary school but as soon as she felt able we arranged for her to go back to and or learn a vocation, so that she can fit back into society.
We house mostly teenage mums from 13 years old (and if need be) up to 21 years of age, but not older. Our second teenage mother came in at age 19.
Since 2021, the foundation has been a member of the Child Protection Network (CPN) of Nigeria, a UNICEF-affiliated programme. CPN is a coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for children-related matters, including their welfare and protection from all forms of abuse.
In 2020, the Alabaster Jar Foundation established a Facebook group: Campaign Awareness Against Gender-Based Violence & Gender Inequality. With more than 1,400 members, the online group promotes the protection of the girl child from gender-based violence that spiked across Nigeria during the Covid-19 pandemic lock-down. To help the campaign against gender-based violence and child abuse, join our Facebook group here.
"Both . . . after being rejected by their families, were promised a place to stay by the only shelter in Lagos that provides support to underage pregnant girls. But only if they carried their pregnancies to term. Run by a Christian organisation, the Alabaster Jar Foundation, the shelter offers girls accommodation, food and clothing."
The Alabaster Jar Foundation once sponsored a teenage girl who came in as an illiterate. We enrolled her in school when we saw her zeal to read and study the Bible. She did very well in school and quickly learned to read simple books to everyone's amazement.
By the grace of God, the foundation is blessed with many success stories. Pictures are worth a thousand words. See our Photo Gallery, a collection of pictures, including people, places and events.
